Why Gul

Gul began with a simple belief: the handmade textile traditions of India deserve to be worn, cherished, and celebrated in everyday life not just admired from afar.

The idea for Gul was born after a journey to Kutch and the artisan villages that surround it in the years following the pandemic. As I wandered through these communities, I was captivated by the extraordinary craftsmanship that existed in every corner, hand-dyed fabrics, intricate embroidery, and techniques passed down through generations. Yet I was equally struck by how little of this artistry reached the modern wardrobe.

There was a disconnect between the beauty of these crafts and the way contemporary women wanted to dress. I wanted to help bridge that gap.

Made by hand, by artisans we work with directly

Every Gul piece is created by master artisans in Rajasthan and Gujarat; hand-block-printed Ajrakh, hand-dyed Shibori, Suzani and Kantha embroidery, Bandhani, and Gujarati mirror work. These are techniques passed down through generations, and they take time: many hours, sometimes days, for a single piece.

Natural dyes, real materials

We work with natural dyes - indigo, madder, pomegranate, the colours your great-grandmother knew - on fluid modal silk and other natural materials. Because each piece is made by hand, no two are identical. Small variations aren't flaws; they're the fingerprint of the person who made it.

Direct from the source

Your purchase pays the artisan directly. No middlemen, no markup chain, just fair work for the hands behind the craft.
Gul is built on a simple idea: beautiful craftsmanship should benefit the people who create it. By working directly with artisans, we try to ensure that the value of their work stays with them.

Who Gul is for

Gul is for those who appreciate things made slowly and thoughtfully. For those who love textiles, travel, heritage and pieces with a story behind them. If that sounds like you, welcome.
